Pool update and BBQ area.

I will put in a wall light and plug sockets either side of the BBQ also the worktop height will allow for you to put in an under counter (beer) fridge if needed.

The block work is now finished with the exception of possibly raising the BBQ wall, these photos should give you an idea of the finished wall heights, I think we have managed to give some privacy without loosing the views.
When we build the water feature the wall height will seem even lower.

Lanzarote´s popularity as an overseas property investment hot spot shows little sign of abating. Despite the recent downturn in the UK property market and the upsurge in interest rates.
Lanzarote Investment property still attracts a great deal of interest from both UK and Irish based buyers. Thanks largely to the islands on-going popularity as a year round holiday destination. Attracting over one million British and Irish visitors alone in 2006.
Where tourism leads, property investment tends to follow. As these sorts of visitor numbers provide a ready-made market, twelve months of the year. Which cannot be said for other mainland Spanish holiday destinations or emerging markets such as Eastern Europe.
The returns for overseas investors are also more appealing. As Lanzarote Holiday Villas command excellent rental returns. So enabling most owners to more than cover their mortgage costs whilst also enjoying a pretty healthy additional income.
Capital growth is also running at around 9% currently on Lanzarote. Which means overseas investors will also enjoy a significant rise in the value of their property over time.
Unsurprisingly, the main resorts attract the most interest from overseas investors.
With Playa Blanca often offering excellent value for money for those seeking a basic villa with pool, whilst Puerto del Carmen is geared more towards studios and apartments.
Property prices across the island are still low in relation to other parts of Spain – so some leading industry observers such as Mark Stucklin of the Sunday Times still feel that Lanzarote offers plenty of room for price growth.
The market here is also fuelled by a growing expatriate community. With sun starved Northern Europeans now making up an estimated 10% of the islands overall population. And emigration from the UK looks set to keep rising – as more and more Brits head for the sun in search of a better quality of life.

The backfill is now in and we have vibrated the soil with a compactor, then laid down a steel mesh with steel reinforcing bars with the screed on top.

The picture below has the man pointing out the shower drain to the left of the gate way.

I think 4 blocks high around the pool is enough but it might be sensible to raise the BBQ area at least 2 or 3 more block for wind protection. I will also install two low plug sockets on the BBQ wall.

The walls for the terrace are now in, tomorrow is a fiesta so will backfill on Thursday, then it will start to look like a pool.
The block work is seperated every few meters with a reinforced column for added strength this is also connected to the foundations

This Swimming Pool and Patio area was built and designed by Natura Design in 2006, it is surrounded by a large tiled terrace which is in turn finished with a low natural stone wall in which we placed some large volcanic rocks.

There is a water feature at one end.

Hi Ron,
Here are some up to date pictures of the pool.

Water was delivered on Monday so work is cracking on again.
Water pump is fine.
The steel has been put in the pool base and the copper wire for the earth has been soldered to it with two one metre copper spikes driven in to the ground to insure a good earth for the electrics.
Each layer of blocks has a 12mm thick ring of metal going through it, the blocks are hollow and then filled with concrete. So in effect the blocks work as a shuttering for the steel and concrete walls of the swimming pool.
I have put in the two swimming pool lights, five inlet jets for the return of the water after filtration, two skimmers, the sump and an extra connection for cleaning the pool. I have added this because, through experience, it´s much easier to clean the pool using a separate connection rather than using the skimmer (better suction).
Could you let me know what shape pool stairs you would like. e.g. curved or square?
